Hey gang! Captain Slinky here to answer the question that has hit our inbox about 427 times in the past two weeks, “WHEN CAN WE APPLY FOR THE NEXT CAPTAIN SLINKY ODDMALL SHOW?!?” I know, it’s frustrating! We’re all trying to get our budgets set and our calendars marked, and since we sell out FAST I can certainly understand the concern!
So the SHORT answer is “Soon”. The longer answer is “Hopefully on Black Friday (November 29th)”. And the LONGEST answer is “Maaan I don’t know! Last year we rushed it and ended up with a giant mess of built-up applications, stuck approvals and over-sold spaces so THIS time we want to make sure it all goes super-smooth or at the very least as smooth as possible, plus we’re trying to expand a bit by adding a few smaller shows in other cities but all of that takes time as well and it’s just The Captain & Mama Slinky doing it all and it’s not as if they’re young or spry anymore right?”

November 9th 10-6 & November 10th 10-5 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Monroe WA
Folks, it’s been one heck of a wacky weekend! See, we had some problems with our applications process that meant we weren’t able to approve or deny applications for, like, THREE MONTHS. Once we got it fixed, ALL THE EVERYONE got approved at once, which made us completely sell out of spaces overnight on Saturday night! This should be GREAT news, right? What kind of local craft show sells out of 170 spaces three months before the show! That’s NUTS!
Unfortunately, this left about 130 vendors in our system that had been approved but never had access to the Vendor Agreement Invoice, which is what lets you pay us and makes us put you on the map. ALL SPACES FOR THE CAPTAIN SLINKY ODDMALL EVENTS ARE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST-PAID, FIRST-SERVED BASIS! You could be approved and still not be guaranteed to get a space at Oddmall till you’ve paid. As “Let Them Eat Cake” as it sounds, all an approval from our judges means is that we will allow you to give us money for the privilege of being in our show. And when your money comes, we will use it to buy more champagne hot tubs and cocaine lobsters. IT’S CAPITALISM, BABEEEEE!!!
We can’t leave all those vendors stranded, regardless of how Elite we may be!
We are currently waiting to hear from The Fairgrounds to see if we can expand to a SECOND BUILDING for all those who have been left behind. This is going to be a HUGE GAMBLE for us, seeing as how this is the same weekend as such great shows as Grit City Comic Show, Geek Girl Con, KumoriCon and more! If we can get the second building (which holds about 90 vendors), this is going to be NUTS. MORE ENTERTAINMENT! MORE PHOTO OPS! MORE PRIZES!!! MORE OF THE GOOD KIND OF WEIRDNESS WE ALL THRIVE ON!
So now all we have to do… is wait. Wait to hear from the folks at the Fair Grounds. They’re great to us and scrambling to find solutions for us AS WE SPEAK! But till then, your pal Captain Slinky is just kind of in a holding pattern waiting to spring into action and make this all happen!

It started with a Facebook Post from Oddmall artist Shanna Duncan saying something along the lines of “Uh oh, looks like Tazz got out of his enclosure”
This was followed by several posts in various local Facebook communities of Snohomish County such as, and this is in order over the next hour or two “OMG THERE’S AN ALLIGATOR LOOSE IN GRANITE FALLS!”, “TEN-FOOT LONG ALIGATOR SPOTTED IN SNOHOMISH COUNTY”, and my favorite, “ANYONE MISSING A POODLE? 10-FOOT ALLIGATOR LAST SEEN WITH TEETH COVERED IN BLOOD AND POODLE FUZZ!!!”

I gotta admit, it’s going to be a big weekend with LOTS of different events going on across the PNW that appeal to our “Target Demographic”, so be sure you choose the right event for you!
First off, there’s Geek Girl Con at the Seattle Convention Center, a two-day event that focuses on – you’re not gonna believe this – GEEK GIRLS! Comics, Sci-Fi, STEM, Gaming, Media – it’s a great show and you definitely need two days to appreciate it all! Tickets are reasonably priced at as low as $15 for a kids weekend pass and $40 for a single-day adult admission. And TEENS get in for less than an adult! A great event totally worth your time and effort!
Then there’s the Grit City Comic Show at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, which is just Saturday November 9th and they use up every bit of it! Last of the old-school, local, affordable Comic Book Conventions – JUST TEN BUCKS! THIS is the type of Ciomic Book Convention I love!
And then of course there’s the Kumoricon Anime Convention down in Portland at the Oregon Convention Center November 8-10 (THREE DAYS!) that you might also be interested in, assuming your down for a few hours of driving đŸ˜‰ It’ll cost you $70 per person to attend for the entire weekend or for just a day – they are a non-profit organization that doesn’t sell tickets; they register members!
I mention these three because if I WEREN’T Captain Slinky and I WEREN’T running an Oddmall, I’d likely be attending one of these events đŸ™‚
